Episode 2 Show Notes
I’m excited to be sharing more about how to best support your metabolism here today! This episode is part 2, and if you missed part 1, make sure to go check out all of the goodness I shared in episode 1.
In today’s episode, I’m talking about:
The final 3 core pillars that make up a healthy metabolism
What a toxin is and how it impacts your metabolism. A toxin is considered a harmful substance that can negatively affect your metabolism and your overall health by disrupting various physiological processes. This is becoming way more of a problem, and it’s going to affect many generations to come. We HAVE to start paying attention, and get our heads out of the sand. We are literally living in a toxic soup of a planet right now, and we don’t have nearly enough regulation for what is going into our food, cleaning products, makeup, etc.
Ways you can reduce your toxic load. Check out ewg.org for all of your personal care products (so many great resources here), look up the dirty dozen list on fruits and vegetables, swap out plastic food containers and pans, cleaning products, laundry soap, etc., get an air purifier, take hot baths and utilize a sauna if possible, place castor oil packs over your liver, and dry brush your skin.
My personal journey with strength training. I was never an athlete growing up, and I didn’t even start going to a gym until I was in my early 20’s. I started running (I became addicted to the runner’s high), and I eventually started going to CrossFit when a friend of mine invited me. I now primarily work out at home and we’ve built a home gym in our garage that works well for us.
The importance of building muscle mass and how you can do so. Muscle specifically is the largest site in the body for glucose disposal. The more muscle tissue your body has, the better your body will be at using glucose. Ultimately, your body will be better able to manage your blood sugar.
Signs and symptoms you may experience if your body is running on stress hormones. You may have a lack of appetite in the morning, irregular bowel movements and digestive issues, feeling highly strung or like you can’t relax, wired and tired at night but can’t fall asleep, constant cravings, not tolerating caffeine well, irregular or absent menstrual cycles, mood swings (easily irritable), and not having steady energy throughout the day.
Stress management techniques to support your metabolic health. Walk outside with no phone (regular sunlight exposure is really helpful for your body’s circadian rhythm), take hot baths, practice breath work and meditation, implement journaling and a morning routine that works for you, cold plunging/cold exposure (very trendy right now), eating consistently to balance blood sugar, physical touch with a loved one or pet, and managing your relationship with your devices.
Learning to improve and support your metabolic health one step at a time is key.
I know this information may be a bit overwhelming; I don’t want you to think you have to completely overhaul your life all at once. This truly is a journey after all!
If you’re able to start making small, incremental changes over time, it will be sustainable, and I have no doubt you will see success when doing so. I’ll be here, cheering you on, as you’re focusing on your metabolic health, and am happy to chat with you more if you need support in this area!
